Call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police or your local Police Dept. for the following reports:
Animal Cruelty Reports
Livestock and Farm Animals
Urgent Wildlife Reports (For nuisance wildlife, you will need to contact a pest control specialist at your own expense).
Loose Dogs (only when DCO is unavailable)
Loose/Found Dogs:
Found dogs should first be reported to the Dog Control Officer in the municipality where the dog is found (a DCO can only pick up dogs that were found within their jurisdiction).
Lost and Found Pets:
Call the DCO in the municipality where they went missing from and follow up by texting a picture of your pet. If you think they may roam further, consider notifying the surrounding DCO’s as well.
Posting a picture of your missing pet on social media has proven to be very effective.
File a report with the Columbia Greene Humane Society.
Cats: There are no government agencies that are able to handle stray or feral cats. You can contact the Columbia Greene Humane Society, Animal Kind or a similar agency, to see if they are able to assist.
Rabies Reports: Columbia County Health Dept., during office hours.
The Health Dept. can help if you think you or your pet may have been exposed to rabies or you have questions about rabies.
Wildlife Reports: DEC (Region 4).
